In Spring 2022, Civicorps’ Conservation Supervisors and Crew Leaders received Community Emergency Response Team certification. It marked the first time the Oakland Fire Department trained a community group composed entirely of one organization’s staff. Our cohort received hands-on training from Oakland Fire Fighters where they learned and practiced essential disaster survival skills including personal preparedness, how to identify and treat life-threatening injuries, safe lifting techniques to help those who are injured, assessing building damage, how to safely and thoroughly search buildings for survivors, how to suppress and overhaul small fires, and how to identify signs of terrorism.
While all of our Corpsmembers are trained in Red Cross CPR and First Aid, we can now proudly serve our community with critical emergency response skills under our belt.
