Working with our project sponsors such as CalTrans, the Port of Oakland, the City of Alameda and the City of Emeryville, our Corpsmembers engage in landscaping, invasive tree removal and litter abatement. As well, our Corpsmembers participate in community service projects to clean and beautify our streets. Examples include MLK Day of Service trash cleanup, Huey Newton/Mandela Parkway median flower planting, Earth Day projects in Cities of Berkeley and Vallejo.
The Dr. Huey P. Newton Foundation is proud to have Civicorps partner with us to realize the vision for the space where Huey’s bust resides. The mission of Civicorps spoke clearly to us of the shared understanding of how important this space would be for the neighborhood and for Huey’s legacy. The Foundation is eternally grateful to the Civicorps team for the energy they brought to this very special project, and for their ongoing commitment to care for this sacred space.
